CC's Offering

“My offering was a home-made stinging nettles liqueur that I call Kiss of the Green Wood Snake. The nettles are a species known as dog nettle and they grow wild in my backyard every winter.”

– CC Hart

CC's Snake Recipe

While not offered at this event, this is one dish that you can make as an offering to honor the Wood Snake!

Awaiting Guests

Before the guests began to arrive Toku Woo (dog) set up his guitar and
amplifier and played some light background music.

Guest Offerings

The Final Spread

Fusilli and Wine

After the guests arrived at the Sunnyside Conservatory and presented their offering in front of the large HOX wheel, everyone was seated. Three strikes to the brass bowl symbolized the beginning of our dinner and ritual. Victoria and Sidd spoke about the origins of the HOX Zodiac dinners before invoking a blessing for all animals.

Then, we partook of the HOX Zodiac communion: vials of red wine symbolizing the blood that unites us.

The fusilli served in a petri dish represents DNA and the hox genes that are present in all members of the animal kingdom.

Story Sharing

The Snake Altar

“My friends Kari and Jamie built an altar to the snake with meaningful objects I brought from home, and other sacred items brought by friends.

We had asked the HOX Zodiac guests to bring objects to place upon the altar, so by the end of the event, the altar was quite adorned with beautiful art objects and spiritually significant mementos.”

Saying Goodbye

As we closed out the event, someone used Nano Visser’s camera and photographed our group outdoors with our snake lab coats. This allowed Nano to be in the photo.

After we cleaned the Sunnyside Conservatory and got every thing in

place to close thedoors, Sidd, Victoria, Ivy, Sam, and I held hands and made a circle at the center of the conservatory, where we gave our gratitude for a wonderful event. Sadly, there is no photo to share, but it did give us a moment of meaningful closure.
